Give Back - It Makes a World of Difference
First of all for many of the Auburn Hills Chamber members I am preaching to the choir when I am encouraging you to give back and volunteer. Giving back is in your blood (hopefully, literally) and I really appreciate all of your efforts. Our Chamber is fortunate to have so many volunteers.
But I also know there are some of you saying I would love to give back but I don't have the time, resources, money, etc. It's like the 10% rule in investing. Put away at least 10% of your income BEFORE you start paying the bills. If you wait until after you pay the bills and then see what's left over there won't be anything. This works the same way with giving back. If you make it a priority and schedule it in first you will find the rest of your activities will still get done.
OK, now that I've cleared your schedules and you know you have more time to give back where do you start? Here are a few of my favorites:
- Give Blood - only a fraction of those that can give blood do. Every two seconds someone needs blood. One day it could be you. Find out where to donate at www.givelife.org.
- Teach Children - last year the Chamber had 26 volunteers for Junior Achievement touching over 650 students lives. We're looking for more this year. Contact the Chamber at 248-853-7862 to learn more.
- Donate Company Resources - whatever your company's industry and expertise I'm sure someone or some organization would be grateful for your help.
- Serve on Chamber committees - get involved in the many Chamber activities that support our business, education, and community initiatives.
- Volunteer at Chamber events - we can always use volunteers for our Golf Outing, Taste of Auburn Hills, State of the City, and our many other monthly activities.
Get involved and make a difference. Everyone benefits.
